Do you have a student who likes to read? Is he/she ready to start learning how to write a composition? Whether your student likes to read or not, this consumable textbook is a must.
Writing and grammar are two indispensable tools for the English student. Learning grammar alone will not teach a student how to write; neither will learning writing alone teach a student how to write well. To learn writing well, a student must not only have the writing and grammar lessons combined, but he/she must concentrate on only one type of composition until it is mastered.
This course concentrates on teaching how to successfully write book reports in a step-by-step format that makes any reading adventure become a successful writing adventure. The hands-on book contains five units of three chapters each. Each unit begins with a chapter of Ethics Skills teaching your student how to choose a Biblically honoring book to read. After scriptural values are studied, they are recorded on worksheets and in a quick reference table for your student to refer to when choosing the books he/she will read.
Next, each unit contains a Writing Skills chapter with easy-to-follow instructions that teach how to write a book report from the opening to the closing paragraph. These chapters gradually introduce new concepts that facilitate the growth and maturation of writing skills.
The third chapter in each unit is full of Grammar Skills and PRACTICE exercises. Your student is taught each grammar rule which he/she then practices and is instructed to apply to current and future writing.
Next, convenient preprinted forms for collecting data and writing a final book report are included. These helpful study pages aid in organization and provide a keepsake record of each writing success. Additionally, the final book report forms contain border frames that are a delight for every student to color, making each report a masterpiece!

The Teacher's manual is written in a scripted format that is read aloud. This easy format also contains instructions about what to write on the chalkboard and when to expect a response from your student.
The student textbook is a comprehensive, hands-on course that skillfully guides your student through the learning the writing process. The hands-on book contains units of three chapters each. Each unit begins with a chapter of Ethics Skills teaching your student how to write Biblically honoring stories.
Next, each unit contains a Writing Skills chapter with easy-to-follow instructions that gradually introduce new concepts to facilitate the growth and maturation of writing skills. These lessons begin with writing manageable paragraphs, and then gradually build to a multi-page story. As your student learns more, more writing is required. Beginning lessons focus on describing words (adjectives): how to use them and where to find them. Middle lessons teach about conversation in a story: how to write and punctuate. Final lessons teach about purpose and plot as well as how to combine everything that is learned into a story.
The third chapter in each unit is full of Grammar Skills and PRACTICE exercises. Your student is taught each grammar rule which he/she then practices and is instructed to apply to current and future writing.
This course includes detailed homework assignments so that your student can check off each item required to make sure his/her paper is turned in with all of the correct elements.

This hands-on, consumable textbook is a wonderful teaching tool for any student who has never written an essay or research report before as well as students who have never learned the correct format for these types of compositions. The textbook’s carefully guided sequence of teaching is a natural method of learning that takes the headache out of writing and breaks it down into unique and manageable units. By the completion of the one year course, your student will have progressed from writing beginning compositions to intermediate compositions. Your student will also have acquired SAT/ACT essay writing skills.
The textbook is divided into two units with one unit for each type of composition. Each unit begins with a chapter of Ethics Skills teaching your student about writing choices and the values his/her writing should promote. Subsequent chapters alternate between Writing Skills and Grammar Skills with PRACTICE exercises. The Writing Skills chapters teach about the types of paragraphs; the topics of paragraphs; the individual sentences in paragraphs (including their order and content); the smooth flow of words, sentences, and paragraphs; and other details.
The text initially uses carefully prepared questions to enable your student to prepare one paragraph of writing per day, then correct the writing, and at the end of each week assemble the daily paragraphs into a complete composition. After learning about how and why to write, the questions are replaced with instructions. Composition topics are predetermined so that your student can focus on learning writing and grammar skills without the anxiety of having to determine his/her own writing topics. Editing instructions and grading charts are also included.

The authors' lives, as well as the content of each selection, are discussed from a Christian perspective.
This course will cause your student to sharpen his/her skills of discernment of what "literature adherent to the Bible" really means. You can also be confident that your student will be pointed toward selecting and reading good, Christian literature.
Adequate explanation and discussion of the different types of literature styles is included. The details of the different types of poems and the different parts of a poem are reviewed. Allegories and parables are examined in detail. Historical short stories, fiction stories and fiction novels, as well as the autobiographical novel are introduced and studied.
The workbook is divided into daily assignments corresponding to the text of each literary selection. Principles for maximum learning are included. For instance, educational studies show that most students will skip over words that they do not know when reading. In our workbook, your student is required to look up each new vocabulary word in the dictionary, then formulate a definition and record it in the workbook before he/she reads each daily selection. This process causes your student to increase not only his/her vocabulary knowledge, but also his/her retention and reading comprehension.
The question sections enhance your student's reading comprehension by asking a variety of questions about each selection. These sections also include important Bible studies pertaining to the daily text, as well as thought-provoking attention to important details in the text. Questions that cause your student to stretch and think a little more about what has been read are also included.
The writing assignments involve essays, book reports, and poems. Your student is guided to write more mature essays and book reports. Instructions and grammar exercises are included to help with this important aspect of English training. (We recommend using our BOOK REPORTS and ESSAYS writing courses for students who do not have writing skills in these areas.)
